What is the musk rose?

The Rose Hip or (Rosa Affinis Rubiginosa) is a plant with thorns and pink and white flowers which is cultivated in the Chilean Andes under a cold and rainy climate. The oil of the Rose Hip is extracted fromthe seeds of this plant.

Its unique properties were discovered as early as 1983 by researchers from the prestigious University of Chemistry and Pharmacology of Concepción, Chile. This two-year study involved 180 patients suffering from post-surgical scars, burns or premature aging (or wrinkles). The results observed show theincredible regenerative power of Rose Hip on skin tissue.

What does Rose Hip oil contain?

An oil rich in essential fatty acids

In December 1988, two practitioners (Dr. Bertha PAREJA from the University of Lima and Dr. Horst KEHL from Missouri), published a report: "Contribution to the identification and application of the active compounds contained in Rosa Rubiginosa".

According to them, at the beginning, the regenerating and healing power would be due to the high concentration of essential fatty acids (omega 6 and 3): linoleic acids (45-50%), linolenic (30-35%), oleic (15-20%). However, although they guarantee healthy skin by oral administration, their presence alone does not provide sufficient scientific evidence to explain their extraordinary regenerating and healing properties.

Powerful regenerating active ingredients

They were then able to identify the presence of Retinoic Acid-Trans or Tretinoin, derived from Vitamin A. The beneficial effects of this acid in the treatment of various dermatological disorders are no longer to be proven, and the most significant results have been obtained in the treatment of skin "photodamaged" by excessive sun exposure. Tretinoin can produce positive and rapid changes on the skin, but this substance, in isolation, cannot be used without medical control, otherwise there is a risk of more or less significant adverse effects.

In Rose Hip,tretinoin occurs naturally as part of a complex system of unsaturated fatty acids. This state gives it its extraordinary regenerating and healing properties WITHOUT side effects. The vegetable oil of Rose Hip can therefore be beneficially used in cases of wrinkles, spots, stretch marks, acne scars, skin alterations ...

Rosehip oil: we untangle the true from the false!

Do you have any questions about rosehip oil? Don't panic, we'll tell you how to use it properly.

Rosehip oil is comedogenic: true but...

Rosehip oil has a comedogenicity index of 3, which means that it can clog pores and thus create possible skin imperfections, especially if you are already subject to this type of problem. In practice, it is a delicate vegetable oil to define in the sense that the reactions remain very variable from one person to another. The important thing to remember is that each skin is unique and reacts differently.

If you still have active acne and do not want to take any risks, we advise you to turn to a non-comedogenic vegetable oil such as hemp. This super ingredient is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory powers. Ideal to treat acne scars while gently regulating the skin!

Rosehip oil is photosensitizing: false

Rest assured, you can enjoy theregenerating and anti-aging benefits of rose hip oil without moderation, day and night. It does not in any way make the skin more sensitive to the sun.

Rosehip oil can be used during pregnancy: true

Indeed, the oil of musk rose has no contraindication of use when one is pregnant. On the contrary, it would be a pity to deprive oneself of its preventive action against stretch marks. As we saw above, it contributes to maintain a firm, smooth and elastic skin. We therefore advise you to use it from the beginning of your pregnancy. As a bonus, it is compatible with breastfeeding.
