Oily Face

What is oily skin?

Oily skin: how to recognize it?

The skin naturally produces sebum, which allows to retain of moisture in the tissues and protect the skin from external aggressions. It is secreted by the sebaceous glands and flows through the pores.

The oily skin secretes an excess of sebum, which gives a shiny and oily appearance to the face. The volume of the sebaceous glands increases, which creates dilated pores in which impurities can lodge: this can conduct to the appearance of black dots, imperfections, or even acne.
Often quite thick, oily skin has an irregular skin texture.
It usually goes hand in hand with an oily scalp, and can also affect the back and torso.

The case of oily skin is more common with men, because their skin is thicker than women's skin, and their sebaceous glands are larger and more numerous.

Positive point of oily skin? The layer of sebum on the surface of the skin protects it from dehydration and gives it better protection against external aggressions, which delays skin aging. Oily skin is often much less wrinkled than dry skin!

Very Oily Skin

Oily skin or combination skin?

Oily skin has shine all over the face, including the cheeks. If the shine is located on the T zone only (forehead - nose - chin), it means that your skin is not oily but a combination..

Why do I have oily skin?

Oily skin is often caused by hormonal imbalance: it is common during puberty, pregnancy, or during the pre-menopause period.

The production of sebum is also a defense mechanism of the skin when it is attacked: it can thus be caused by the use of unsuitable beauty products, by the environment (pollution, hot and humid climate), through stress, dehydration…

In any case, natural solutions exist to regulate it!

To sum-up :

I HAVE OILY SKIN IF:

  • When I wake up the morning my whole skin face shine

  • I feel like an oily film on my skin

  • My pores are large

  • My skin texture is irregular

  • During the day, my skin glows after a few hours and my makeup does not last

  • I often have blackheads and/or imperfections

OILY SKIN GOAL?

  • GentlyRegulate the secretion of sebum

  • Tighten pores

  • Purify the skin and reduce shine

Oily Skin

Oily skin : 3 mistakes to avoid absolutely

  1. Pickle the skin: The most common mistake when you have oily skin: use and abuse of ultra purifying and astringent products. This type of treatment will overexcite the sebaceous glands which will produce even more sebum to defend themselves. A real vicious circle! Whether in the case of facial cleansing or exfoliation, softness is the key.

  2. Skip hydration: Oily skin needs to be properly hydrated, you just have to opt for an oily skin cream non-comedogenic (that is to say which does not risk clogging pores), with a light and fluid texture and which ideally has a mattifying action.

  3. Heavy Handed Makeup: When you have shiny skin that is prone to imperfections, you are tempted to opt for an ultra covering foundation and superimpose mattifying powder layers. ..Result? The skin suffocates, clogs faster, and produces even more sebum to protect itself.

Oily Skins

How to naturally treat oily skin?

Which vegetable oil for oily skin?

Organic vegetable oils are ideal to regulate oily skin, provided you choose non-comedogenic and with a dry finish.
Our favorites? jojoba oil,  nut oil, orblack seed oil.

Some essential oils are perfect for dry skin, such as tea tree, geranium, lavender, or lemon essential oils...

Which hydrosol for oily skin?

Hydrosols are suitable for all skin types but the ideal for oily skin is to choose a hydrosol with regulating and purifying properties.

You can choose: hydrosol of lavender, rosemary, peppermint, rose…

Clay: the miracle remedy for oily skin?

Nothing like a clay mask once a week to purify your skin. The perfect ally for oily skin is green clay, which detoxifies, remineralizes, unclogs impurities in pores, and absorbs excess sebum.

We can also bet on :

  1. Rice powder softens and mattifies thanks to its absorbing power.

  2. Sage purifies and smoothes the skin texture. It regulates the activity of the sebaceous glands and renews the natural protective layer of the skin.

  3. Bearberry to regulate sebum secretion, reduce skin imperfections, and reduce shine.

  4. Bamboo charcoal, with activated carbon which extracts all bacteria and impurities from the pores.

  5. Aloe vera soothes, hydrates, refreshes, and rebalances the pH of the skin.

  6. Salicylic acid reduces blemishes and refine skin texture.

Very Oily Face Skin

The perfect oily skin routine, 100% natural and organic

A layering ritual is particularly recommended for oily skin as it is a really effective way to cleanse the skin thoroughly and limit excess sebum and blemishes.

1/ How to clean oily skin?

Goal: gently remove makeup and impurities, in a way that it does not attack the skin and excite the sebaceous glands

In the evening, choose the double cleaning Japanese style, which consists of cleansing with oil followed by a mild foaming cleanser to remove the last impurities and residue of oil. It is the best method to thoroughly cleanse your skin without stripping it (provided of course you choose the right products!).

Contrary to popular belief, removing makeup with oil is very beneficial for oily skin and helps regulate excess sebum while restoring the hydrolipidic film.
Combined with a gentle facial cleanser to remove oil residues and last impurities, the skin is perfectly clean and healthy. And why not use a clay-based cleansing powder that absorbs all theimpurities embedded in the pores for clear skin.

We end the cleansing ritual with a tonic lotion that neutralizes limescale in the water, hydrates, and rebalances the epidermis. The ideal is a hydrolase or an astringent lotion that tightens the pores and purifies the skin while refreshing it.

In the morning, we skip the oil step and settle for the combo gentle facial cleanser + tonic lotion.

A great idea? Use the S.O.S Purity brush with its facial cleanser 2 to 3 times a week to unclog pores and remove blackheads.

2/ How naturally hydrating oily skin?

Which day cream for oily skin?

Choose a fluid, a gel, or a light cream that regulates sebum production, hydrates without oily effect, and mattify.

In any case, we make sure that the facial treatment used is non-comedogenic so as not to clog the pores and end up with pimples!

Organic face oil for oily skin, good or bad idea?

Contrary to popular belief, vegetable oils are ideal for oily skin. As they have a composition very close to the sebum produced naturally by the skin, they are in excellent affinity with our epidermis. By bringing this dose of fat to the skin, it will adapt and secrete less sebum, so it regulates itself naturally.

If you are reluctant to apply oil during the day, use it at least in night care to regenerate your skin.

3/ How to mattify your skin and treat blemishes?

I use a purifying serum for oily skin:

You can complete your beauty routine with an oily skin serum to apply under your face cream or oil for an enhanced purifying and mattifying action.

Depending on how you feel, you can apply it daily in addition to a moisturizing serum or alternate by applying it every other day. Our favorite? Whamisa regulating serum with fermented apples and flowers, which regulates excess sebum and tones the skin. If your oily skin is dehydrated, opt for a gel serum with hyaluronic acid such as Hydra Firm Madara, which can even be used on its own.

If your skin is prone to pimples and acne, apply locally an anti-blemish treatment targeted on the affected areas, like the Z&MA Anti-Blemish Serum.

Oily Skin Care

I favor enzymatic and gentle scrubs:

Oily skin tends to "clog" more easily, so it is essential to carry out an exfoliation 1 to 2 times per week to remove dead skin and smooth the skin texture.
We avoid grain scrubs because friction tends to excite the sebaceous glands:

Prefer an enzymatic exfoliation that does not contain grains but enzymes and/or fruit acids that nibble the dead cells and unclog the impurities thanks to a chemical reaction, such as the Nominoe purifying peeling that we love.

I apply a purifying mask

After exfoliation, apply a purifying and detoxifying mask to regulate excess sebum and unclog enlarged pores, such as a charcoal mask for example.
Clay masks are perfect for oily skin, but it is important not to let them dry on the skin to take full advantage of their benefits.

The right gesture: Spray floral water regularly over the mask to keep it “moist”, or mix it with honey, aloe vera, or yogurt (for powder masks in particular).

The 4 essential oily skin makeup

Makeup may be difficult to last on oily skinThe challenge: finding the right balance for your complexion and keeping the shine under control throughout the day.
To put the odds on your side, apply makeup on perfectly cleansed and hydrated skin.

Here are 4 essential gestures to adopt to make up your oily skin :

1/ The mattifying base

Just after applying my oily skin day cream or my face oil, I use a primer that blurs the pores, smoothes the skin texture, purifiesand neutralizes shine for a perfect complexion. Our favorites? Denovo Frosted Balm and Vapour Smoothing and Mattifying Primer Foundation.

Oily Skin Care For Face

2/ The mineral foundation, the best foundation for oily skin

Lily Lolo mineral foundation is the best ally for oily skin prone to imperfections:100% natural and non-comedogenic, it unifies and mattifies the skin while letting it breathe. The minerals it contains like zinc have excellent cleansing, regulating, and healing properties.
More than a foundation, it is a real treatment that allows you to have beautiful skin day after day. As a bonus, it offers SPF 15 sun protection!

Tip: Instead of superimposing the layers of foundation to camouflage shine and imperfections, we apply one to 2 layers of mineral foundation using a kabuki brush and then we apply a concealer locally on the problem areas.

3/ Mattifying powder, essential not to shine

In order to fix your makeup and avoid shiny skin, choose a mattifying finishing powder. We apply it sparingly on the entire face or on the T zone only if we want to keep a glowy effect on the cheeks.

4/ The magic anti-shine roll-on

To replace the not very ecological matting wipes, we adopt the roll-on Instant Mat Naturience. This ultra-practical accessory can be used at any time of the day even over makeup to absorb excess sebum.
We slip it into our handbags and use it for touch-ups at any time of the day.
