Dry Skin

How to recognize real dry skin?

What is dry skin? tightness, discomfort cutaneous, scaling, itching, irritations… as many signs showing your skin is dry.

Often thin and easily sensitive et reactive, dry skin is accentuated by external elements such as cold, wind or water, and tends to wrinkle faster.

Rougher when you touch it, your skin lacks suppleness, smoothness, and radiance: this is the famous "crocodile skin".

Why my skin is dry?

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of water and fat (lipids).

Our skin is protected from external aggressions by a lipid barrier on its surface. However, dry skin does not produce enough sebum, which prevents it from forming a homogeneous barrier.

Result? The skin loses its ability to retain water, and the altered barrier makes it vulnerable to external aggressions and irritants, which more easily penetrate the epidermis.

The lack of sebum combined with the loss of water causes skin dryness.

Very Dry Skin

Dry or dehydrated skin: the mistake everyone makes

As soon as the skin feels tight you think you have dry skin but you are often wrong!

The case of dry skin is quite rare. Most people who think they have dry skin actually have "only" dehydrated skin, it is actually skin that is (very) thirsty.

Dehydration can affect all skin types, whether oily, dry or in combination. Dehydrated skin lacks water while dry skin lacks fat.

We can also have at the same time dry and dehydrated skin (and it's often the case!); as explained above the altered barrier of dry skin causes a significant loss of water.

Dry Skin Cream

Dry or dehydrated skin, how to know?

Unlike dry skin, dehydrated skin is usually a temporary concern.

Dehydration is often triggered by environmental factors (cold, wind, sun exposure, etc.), stress and fatigue, alcohol abuse, antibiotic treatments, etc.

Dehydrated skin feels tight but certain areas of the face like the T-zone will tend to shine and have larger pores
Despite the discomfort and tingling, there is no visible flaking or dryness.

It is important to clearly make the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin because they are not treated the same way and if the wrong diagnosis is made, the discomfort persists.

If your skin is dehydrated, opting for ultra-rich and nourishing creams will not necessarily do it well: they will bring fat but not enough water to the skin and may clog the pores.

How to know my skin is dry: 5 unmistakable signs

I HAVE DRY SKIN IF:

  • My pores are tight, almost invisible

  • I don't shine

  • My skin feels tight and often itchy

  • I rarely have blemishes

  • I often have small dead skin & cracks

The goal of dry skin? Hydrate and nourish intensely to find a feeling of comfort.

Dry Skins

5natural active ingredients that dry skin loves

  • Vegetable oils: Ideal for gently removing make-up, they also replace your moisturizer to provide additional nutrition to the skin.

  • Vegetable butter such as shea and cocoa butter are great for intensely nourishing very dry skin.

  • Hyaluronic acid, especially for dehydrated dry skin. It retains up to 1,000 times its weight in water to ensure proper hydration of the deep layers of the skin.

  •  Honey, which has healing but also moistening properties: attracts and retains water in the tissues for optimal hydration.

  • Donkey milk, recognized for its softening, soothing, regenerating properties but also for its high cutaneous tolerance.

Skin Dryness

Which oil for dry skin?

Organic vegetable oils rich in essential fatty acids are the best allies for dry skin! They are in excellent affinity with the skin and help to restore the hydrolipidic barrier to protect from external aggressions and retain hydration in the tissues.

We choose preferably an organic oil rich in omega 6 and 9 which promote the production of lipids.
Our favorites: borage, evening primrose, argan, avocado, wheat germ, coconut…

Which hydrosol for dry skin?

Hydrosols are suitable for all skin types, but to soothe dry skin and soften the skin our favorites are:
- rose water
- orange blossom
- chamomile hydrosol
- lavender hydrosol

Ultra Dry Skin

Dry skin: The organic beauty routine to adopt

1/ Cleansing your skin without drying it out, is possible?

Dry skin often dreads the cleansing step, which can dry out and irritate the skin if you choose the wrong products.

Exit the micellar waters, we adopt the oil make-up removal which leaves the skin soft, supple, and comfortable!

In the case of the driest skin, it is not mandatory to do a double cleansing. The oil leaves a light layer on the skin which is very pleasant :)

Dry Skin

For fans of double cleaning, we forget about foaming cleansers and opt for a nourishing ultra cocooning formula: a creammilk, or a make-up remover balm that removes impurities while restoring the hydrolipidic film.

Rather than using 2 different products, you can repeat the oil cleaning a second time to remove all the impurities.

Our extra tip? Opt for a serum-mist, enriched with hyaluronic acid to provide maximum comfort and softness to the skin, such as Adptology's Dry Spell Mist.

Be careful never to let your tonic lotion or floral water dry on your face: water tends to evaporate and be careful of tightness! We just apply our cream or oil directly on top to seal the hydration.

The good idea? Opt for a serum mist, enriched with moisturizing active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or aloe vera and oils to bring maximum comfort and softness to the skin.

In the morning, no need to cleanse your skin. We just pass a cotton disk of floral water or mist to gently purify.

2/ Oil, balm, cream: which is best for my dry skin?

Choose an organic moisturizer rich in vegetable oils and butter, which nourishes intensely and protects from external aggressions.
Favor alcohol-free treatments to avoid the risk of drying your skin even more.

If your cream is not enough for you, use in addition an organic face oil: mix 1 or 2 drops with your cream or apply the oil as a serum before the cream.

For maximum comfort, the ideal is a face balm full of nutrients and regenerating active ingredients!

The right move: Always apply your face oil or balm on very damp skin for optimal penetration.
If your skin is dehydrated, first use a hyaluronic acid serum for balance in water.

3/ What exfoliation and mask for dry skin?

Exfoliation is an essential gesture to remove dead cells, dry patches and allow care to better penetrate the epidermis.
For dry to very dry skin, avoid too frequent scrubs: once a week maximum.
Also, watch out for abrasive scrubs that attack the epidermis, we prefer formulas with thin grains enriched with nourishing oils or honey scrubs, which hydrate at the same time :)

On weekends, give yourself a moment of relaxation with a comforting and soothing face mask.
We forget the clay masks that dry on the skin and tighten, we prefer soft textures that we leave on for 30 minutes or even a few hours.

Dry Face Skin

Tips:

  • If you want to use a clay mask, mix it with honey or a hydrating mask for more comfort.
Otherwise regularly spray a mist to keep it "wet", and do a moisturizing mask just after.

  • Dry skin that feels tight after the shower? We apply a honey mask or raw honey that we leave on for the entire time of the shower or bath. It will protect the skin from dehydration while the water vapor activates the enzymes contained in honey for a tenfold efficiency.

Dry skin: How to make up?

Which organic makeup for dry skin?

Comfort is the watchword! We forget the powdery textures, too drying, which tend to cause tightness, mark areas of dryness, and fine lines of dehydration

The must? Cream textures, which remain ultra-comfortable on the skin throughout the day and offer a nice natural glow.
We choose care formulas enriched with vegetable oils and butter that will nourish and protect the skin.

The top is to first use an organic face oil as a make-up base so that the foundation glides over the skin and is applied more easily without marking dry skin.

Dry skin which tends to lack radiance, we zap the finishing powder and in the last step, we spray our moisturizing mist which will fix the makeup, refresh and brighten the complexion. If you want to use a powder, opt for an ultra-fine, silky, non-drying one like Antonym's baked mineral powders.
